Movies Capital Review – Is MoviesCapital a Scam?

January 6th, 2010  |  Published in Free Satellite TV On PC Product Reviews

MoviesCapital.com is a new site that provides movie buffs with an opportunity to download or stream hundreds of movies online.  They are also operating with complete legality as they’ve obtained licensing rights for the movies they host.

The site is quickly growing and is becoming one of the most popular destinations for people searching for ways to watch movies on their PCs.  However with all the bogus programs out there and the dozens of hastily put together TV to PC products most people simply want to know what it is they’ll get out of their Movies Capital membership.

So What’s Inside…?

I signed up for the platinum membership plan for $39.95 which would give me 2 years of unlimited access to all sections including: Movies, Cartoons, Horror Movies, Family Movies, Comedy Movies, Action Movies, Suspense Movies, Adventure Movies, Classic Movies, Complete DVD Releases and much more…

However, once inside the members’ area I have to say that I was a bit disappointed.  You’ll realize that having completely legal content as opposed to P2P sharing comes at a cost.  While there were what seemed to be several hundred, if not more, movies the collection was made up of primarily decades old, independent, and lesser known movies.

The majority of the films in the MoviesCapital database are from the 80’s and 90’s with few recent choices.  Unfortunately there’s really no way around this as it would be impossible to get licensing for brand new movies because they’re going to DVD and premium networks first.

Thus, if you want completely legal content you’re forced to do what Movies Capital has done and that is build a library of older and independent films.  To add more value to their membership they have also added some extra features, which include tutorials, a few live TV channels, and a collection of south park episodes.

So is Movies Capital a Scam…?

The company is not a scam as they do deliver on the service that they advertise; however I do not believe that this product would be right for everyone.  The current complaints about this company all have to deal with selection quality.

I think that people who enjoy older and indie movies will benefit the most from a MoviesCapital membership.  But if you’re buying this product with the notion of having the latest movies at your disposal then you’ll surely be disappointed.

On the other hand if you know what you’re getting yourself into then you can definitely find a lot of great movies that aren’t on everyone’s radar.  Click Here to Check out MoviesCapital.com

iSoftware TV Review – is iSoftwareTV a Scam?

December 15th, 2009  |  Published in Free Satellite TV On PC Product Reviews

iSoftwareTViSoftwareTV is a popular TV to PC program that really stands out from the rest.  This new burgeoning market has been swamped with tons of websites and companies all claiming to offer the latest in TV to PC software and resources.

However, if you look under the hood most of these programs simply take your money in exchange for stale links and a collection of video clips readily found online for free.  This is why I was so pleasantly surprised when I checked out iSoftwareTV.

Why iSoftwareTV is Different…

I was expecting the same old but was shocked to find a clearly organized system that delivered on its promises.  Most importantly the one feature that is usually not working and completely misrepresented, live sports, was working perfectly.

You see on most “TV on PC” websites they claim to stream live sports, but what you get is a collection of blurry foreign channels offering nothing but obscure soccer matches and international minor league events.  Basically stuff no one cares about and they get away with these claims because even though it’s almost certain that no customer is buying the program with the intention of watching these specific events, they technically are still live sports.

On the other hand during my evaluation of iSoftwareTV within minutes of downloading the program I was able to catch the last period of the Redwings vs. Coyotes (NHL) game and a live broadcast of Monday Night Football.

The quality was very solid, given the choice of watching the games on my 56” HD Samsung TV or my 13” laptop I would obviously choose the former but choosing between no games at all and iSoftwareTV I would choose the game in a heartbeat.

Especially now with Direct TV dropping Comcast owned VS channel from its lineup watching sports around here has proven to be much more challenging, and iSoftwareTV offers welcomed relief.

Should You Get iSoftware TV?

I think that for the price this program is definitely worth the money.  Now it’s not perfect and some of the channels don’t work all the time and some are mislabeled, but overall you get a really nice line up of live TV, including major network TV shows and a large variety of live sports events.

I have criticized programs like iSoftwareTV primarily because they only act as a middleman; they’re not providing the source of programming just linking to and organizing them.  It is true that if you know where to look you can find the majority of broadcasts online for no charge.

But after looking for live sports on my own I’ve come to the conclusion that the convenience and organization provided by iSoftware TV is really worth the money, especially if you’re a sports fan.  Click Here to Learn More about iSoftwareTV…

PCTV4Me Review – Is it Legit or a Scam?

December 14th, 2009  |  Published in Free Satellite TV On PC Product Reviews

PCTV4MePCTV4Me is an older TV to PC product that has been around for several years now. They differ from other companies in this field by offering a free trial of their software for free.  However they do make the same claims as the other guys, promising hundreds of TV channels from across the Globe bringing you the latest shows, movies, and sports broadcasts.

These programs have been rapidly multiplying and since the release of PCTV4Me there have been dozens of impostors saturating this field with substandard products.  So the question is does this old timer deliver the goods or did it simply set the stage for TV to PC scams?

PCTV4Me Review…

The first thing that you need to know is in regards to the free trial offered by PCTV4Me.  The download is safe and does work however it is only limited to the internet radio portion of the program.  This is a bit misleading since you can’t fully review the most important aspects of the product without paying.

Once you do get inside you will notice that PCTV4Me is really no different from the rest of the available alternatives.  The lists of “Television Stations” that you get are readily available on many websites free of charge.

These are not of the best quality and primarily rely on foreign broadcasts for the meat of their content.  Many of these stations frequently go offline and greatly reduce your viewing options.  This happens often since PCTV4Me does not host the content but links out to it and the host sites often remove/change the streams location.

So is PCTV4Me a Scam…?

The bottom line is that the content found on these sites is not top grade; you’ll get a lot of international programs, indie channels, and looped content.  You may find programs that are interesting or entertaining but the point is that the actual viewing experience does not live up to the promised one.

The good news is that PCTV4Me is sold through Clickbank, a payment processor that offers a no questions asked 8 week money back guarantee on all its products.  Thus, you can try out PCTV4Me without any risk.

If you find channels that you enjoy or are someone who is actually in need of foreign content then you can keep the product.  But if you find it to be a poor offering of marginal TV programming then simply contact CB and obtain your refund.

However, based on former customer reviews it seems that even this is not worth the effort.

LiveTV4Me Review – Is it Legit or a Scam?

December 14th, 2009  |  Published in Free Satellite TV On PC Product Reviews

LiveTV4MeLiveTV4Me is a software download that’s supposed to allow you to watch over 1,000 channels on your computer.  They claim that with their video player you’ll be able to, “Watch live sports, movies, news, music videos and thousands of other programs from the US and around the world.”

You get all this for just one low time fee of $39.95, since this does sound too good to be true most people want to know if this thing actually works, or if it’s just another internet scam.

Does LiveTV4Me Work?

The truth is that all of these TV on PC programs promising 1,000’s of channels deliver a product that is a far cry from what they advertise.  Yes, you will get a video player download and access to many channels but this will not be the experience you’re thinking of when you first sign up.

The channels that you get access to consist primarily of foreign channels, homemade video content, free broadcast television i.e. NPR/Public Access, and a handful of American news channels.

Sure, if you’re a die-hard soccer fan you might not mind watching blurry South American soccer matches broadcast in native languages, but to most people who read the ad claiming live sports channels this is not what they have in mind.

The truth is that there is no legal way to get a quality live broadcast of major sports event like the NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB without their expressed permission.  In fact this disclaimer is announced prior to the start of every event and is strictly enforced.

This is why TV to PC programs like LiveTV4Me never release their actual channel lists in advance; they’d rather let you develop your own fantasies of watching your favorite shows and events before you realize that by live sports they meant foreign minor league events.

So is LiveTV4Me a Scam?

It may not be an outright scam but there are some very serious red flags and areas of concern.  For starters this is a nonreturnable product; they claim that since it is a download that once you agree to receive it you cannot ask for a refund.

This is a very sneaky way to prevent refunds for legitimate reasons, like poor selection and video quality.  Also found in their terms and conditions is this paragraph,

All streams are provided by users. LiveTV4me does not approve or disapprove of user provided content. Users may not provide content that infringes on any copyrights. LiveTV4me does not make any claims of providing specific channels. Users should not purchase this software if their intent is to gain access to specific channels. Users agree to purchase the software on an as-is basis.

Basically saying that the content is user generated and there is no stable channels just whatever is available at the time.

All-in-all I wouldn’t recommend canceling your cable company just yet as I don’t think this company is the entertainment solution that it makes itself out to be.

SatelliteDirect.tv Reviews – Is Satellite Direct a Scam?

December 11th, 2009  |  Published in Free Satellite TV On PC Product Reviews

SatelliteDirect.tvSatelliteDirect.tv is another site that claims to provide the full television experience onto peoples’ PCs.  More and more of these types of products are popping up every day and with each new creation there’s a clear decline in quality and integrity.

It’s clear that many developers of Satellite TV on PC products are simply trying to jump on this new bandwagon while it’s hot, and clearly the end result suffers from their hastiness.  So is SatelliteDirect.tv a quality product that delivers on its promises or just another knock off scam?

What They Claim…

On SatelliteDirect.tv the advertisement proclaims, “Watch over 3,500 HD Channels on Your Computer.”  They’re so confident of their product that they go on to recommend that, “You Should Cancel Your Cable Now.”

These are pretty bold claims and if they can actually deliver on them then the product is a steal. Who wouldn’t want to ditch their current provider, keep all the channels, and only pay a onetime fee of $49.95?

So Does Satellite Direct Deliver?

According to the tons of user reviews it certainly does not.  I found complaints ranging from inability to have the software connect to any channels to a belief that Satellite Direct greatly exaggerates the amount of working channels they actually provide.

As with most of these Satellite TV to PC packages the channels that are available are the equivalent of public access TV, these channels are freely broadcast and can be picked up through many free video players.

They use the logos of popular premium channels to lure people in with false hope of quality television at dirt cheap prices.  One of the ways that they can get away with this is by including links to legitimate online TV sites, like HULU.

These sites are allowed to broadcast licensed content because they have acquired it through legal means and are generating revenue through advertisements clips shown throughout episodes.  These sites have the best quality and freshest content while remaining perfectly legal.

The problem with this is that companies like SatelliteDirect.tv are charging almost 50 bucks for access to sites that are readily available free of charge.  Now this may not bother less internet savvy consumers who fell ok with paying for something that’s free on the basis that they themselves might not have found it – which is pretty difficult to believe.

But the other major flaw with relying heavily on licensed content providing websites is that they are only available within US borders.  The moment you leave the United States these sites will not allow access.  This is part of their agreement with the networks and unless you know how to use some kind of IP proxy there’s no getting around it.

If you’re still curious about SatelliteDirect.tv there’s no risk of trying it out as long as you purchase it through Clickbank.com, a payment processor which offers no questions asked 8 week money back guarantee.

However, based on the user feedback found online it doesn’t seem like Satellite Direct is worth the time, if you’re only going to be using the free content aggregator sites you might as well cut out the middle man and visit them directly.
